The Cooper City boys’ basketball team took on the Miramar Patriots on Tuesday, November 20th in their first away game of the season. Senior Scott Palmer led the Cowboys with 19 points, followed by junior Sean Rosinsky with 6 points. Senior Eric Siegel contributed 3 points with 11 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Although the teams were pretty evenly matched, the Patriots came out strong finishing the first quarter with an 11-7 lead. In the second quarter, the Patriots advanced the lead to 24-17 but the game really got aggressive in the second half. Despite an 8-2 run by the Cowboys in the beginning of the third which brought the score to 26-25, the Cowboys were still trailing by one. However, the Patriots responded with an 8-0 run to increase their lead.

The Cowboys, fought hard but struggled defensively in the end. The Patriots racked up 18 more points in the 4th quarter and won the game 52-36.

“We kept it close throughout the first three quarters but we let it get away in the fourth,” Siegel said. “On offense we need to be more patient and on defense we need to apply more pressure and be more disciplined.”

The team has to look beyond the loss and prepare for the rest of season to come.

“I think we’ll improve as the season goes on as we identify our strengths and weaknesses,” Palmer said.

The Cowboys will take on St. Thomas Aquinas in their toughest match of the season next Tuesday, the 27th at home.
