With the season coming to an end soon, the Cowboys had their final regular home game against Somerset Academy on Wednesday, April 25. The game started at 6:30, but the players and parents arrived an hour early to prepare for the very special night. It was senior night for the baseball team, so the banners and speaker had to be set up for the announcements. The Cowboys played their hearts out to try and win the game for the seniors, but lost to the Panthers with a tight score of 2-5.

Before the game started, the seniors got in the order they were supposed to walk out in. The four seniors walking out included Timmy Krause, Cole Avchen, Jimmy Michaels, Zachary Ruebens, and Doug Weinmann. As each of their names were called, they walked out with their friends and family to the center of the field. Each senior received flowers and a baseball, with messages written on them for their parents. Once every senior was called, the fans from the bleachers cheered and the players hustled back into their dugouts. The game began immediately after.

“Senior night was a lot of fun and a great experience for me to share with my teammates,” Krause said. “Having my teammates around to support me was a good way to end the season.”

The Cowboys took the field first and prepared for the Panthers to step up to hit. The Panthers had a several hits, but the Cowboys quickly got three outs. The Cowboys played for 7 innings, having 23 people at bat. Krause had one hit while Justin Rabinowitz had two. Steven Suarez and David Gahagan were each able to score a run for the Cowboys. Rabinowitz and Jordan Schulman both made an RBI, which helped the Cowboys score a homerun.

“The game was really close in the beginning,” Rabinowitz said. “Towards the end the other team just pulled through and won.”

The Cowboys now have an overall record of 6-14 and a district record of 3-3. They hope to continue winning and advance into districts. Their next game is on May 1 at Cooper City High School at 7:00.

“We have been working really hard at practice,” Julen Lopetegui said. “If we keep working hard we could make it to the district playoffs.”

Final Score: Cooper City 2, Somerset Academy 5
