When Friday night plans fall through the cracks and individuals find themselves stuck at home with yet another pint of ice cream, they can take solace in the many titles on Netflix. Shuffling through title after title, though, it can be practically impossible to decide what to watch. That is until one stumbles on a favorite show or movie that never ceases to satisfy their viewing needs. As Netflix cycles through titles, taking away just as many as they add, some items should not be removed.

Note that Netflix original series, documentaries and movies are excluded from this list as they are always available. Additionally, in order to avoid being too biased, ratings were taken into consideration.

10. “Total Drama Island”: “Muy caliente!”

If you know, you know. If you don’t know, you should really find out. While it is a cartoon intended for children, it could just as well be enjoyed by people of all ages– as long as they can tolerate the adolescent sense of humor carried throughout the show.

9. “Supernatural”: “Saving people from things that go bump in the night.”

Two brothers on the road, saving humanity one demon at a time– what could go wrong? A lot of things, but Dean and Sam Winchester persevere season after season.

8. “Grey’s Anatomy”: “Drama, comedy, romance, action, drama, repeat.”

This show has it all. Should anyone be in the mood to feel all of the feels at once, they have full access to all fourteen seasons. Both lengthy and plentiful, binging these episodes may seem like a daunting task, but it’ll go by in the blink of an eye.

7. “Shameless”: “Stuff just happens sometimes.”

Following the Gallaghers is an intense experience everyone deserves to be immersed in. While they’re not exactly role models, they stick by each other’s side through ridiculous problem after ridiculous problem. The Kardashians have nothing on this family.

6. “The Shining”: “Here’s Johnny!”

Stephen King may not have enjoyed the movie adaptation of his novel, but the rest of the world sure did; Rotten Tomatoes boasts an audience score of 93 percent. A horror classic, “The Shining” must be kept around to terrify future generations.

5. “Schindler’s List”: “Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.”

Being three hours long and almost entirely black and white, this movie may appear to be more trouble than it’s worth. However, it tells a heart-wrenching story of an incredibly dark period of human history.

4. “The Office”: “Beets, bears, Battlestar Galactica.”

Anyone who’s watched “The Office” can likely attest to it being a beloved comedy that incorporates storytelling into a very mundane setting. Likable characters, subtle and bold comedy and relatability make it thoroughly enjoyable year round.

3. “Mean Girls”: “That is so fetch!”

Everyone knows “On Wednesdays we wear pink.” However, that doesn’t mean this movie is only to be watched on Wednesdays, or only on October 3. It can be enjoyed Sunday through Saturday, January to December, year after year.

2. “The Breakfast Club”: “The world is an imperfect place.”

A hallmark of the coming-of-age stories of the late John Hughes, “The Breakfast Club” explores the lives of several high schoolers in a way that is not only relatable but shows a depth of understanding of the adolescent mind. It transcends time, becoming something that will likely be revered 30 years from now, just as much as it was when released 30 years ago. Whether a brainiac, an athlete, a basket case, a princess or a criminal, this film has something for everyone.

1. “Friends”: “I’ll be there for you.”

Where would the world be without Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey? A dark place no one should ever have to imagine, that’s for sure. Light-hearted jokes and easily binge-able episodes make this show a staple– one that Netflix should always hold onto.
