For the few students who were affected these past weeks by the appearance of a schedule on your desk during 5th period, worry not. There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why some classes changed and rearranged themselves at the start of the 3rd quarter, and while a new schedule is not what many would have hoped, the reasoning is simple.

To the Sophomores and Juniors who were primarily affected, schedules were changed to accommodate the large number of students who had either moved either in or out of an Honors, Advanced Placement, or regular course, which had resulted in an imbalance of class sizes among teachers. To simply ensure that the number of students in each class remained relatively stable, students were moved to different class periods who had a lower number of students. As simple as that.

In addition, many Personalization Periods were dropped by some teachers and picked up by others. While in some cases this simply meant a change in a Study Hall teacher while the class period remained the same, in other cases the Personalization Period for that class no longer existed or had too many students, thus many had their Personalization Period moved to a different class period, which in turn affected other classes on their schedule as the class period now taken up by study hall had to be moved to another period on the schedule.

The majority of students were not affected by this change, but for those who were the changed was hopefully minimal. While it could take some getting used to, students may find it easy to adjust as only the class periods changed, not the classes themselves (unless switching out of a class was explicitly asked for).

“It just changed the time I had Study Hall and when my History of the Holocaust class was,” Sophomore Annabelle Rosa said. “I mean I’m not accustomed to it quite yet, however it’s a perfectly fine schedule.”
