Taking on the role of a celebrity means facing many challenges, one of which is the invasion of privacy and their personal lives. As celebrities remain in the public eye, so do their relationships.

A vast majority of the time, fans find themselves obsessed with a relationship that isn’t their own. It all begins with a simple click on a seemingly intriguing article and the fans are immediately hooked.

Fans are way too involved when it comes to celebrity relationships. The fans keep up with a particular relationship for so long that when a breakup pops up in the headlines, it is almost impossible to tell if the fans or the famous couple are more devastated.

While many people spent their time obsessing over the new couple, Minaj and Khaled’s management team sat back laughing at the stunt they had just pulled.

Recently, Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live” and one of pop’s biggest female artists, Ariana Grande, have been the talk of celebrity news. According to Seventeen Magazine, after less than a month of dating, the couple was said to be engaged. Shortly after, however, the engagement was called off and fans were devastated. Even weeks after their official breakup, however, celebrity news still revolves around the two of them; “post-breakup haircut” and “post-breakup tour” related articles can be found circulating social media.

Not only are stars’ relationships broadcasted for all of the world to see, but they are also discussed in a way that is quite deceiving as well. Fans can’t trust every story that they read as a reliable source, and many times celebrity relationships are used as publicity stunts. After all, any amount of time spent under the radar can be detrimental to an entertainer who derives their profits from public attention; a new relationship may be just what a social media icon needs to stand out.

Back in 2013, a video of DJ Khaled proposing to Nicki Minaj went viral and every social media platform blew up. While many people spent their time obsessing over the new couple, Minaj and Khaled’s management team sat back laughing at the stunt they had just pulled.

“You gotta take your time and think about it, I understand, but I know I have to be here today to let you know how serious I am and about how serious this is to me,” Khaled said in the video.

According to Capital FM, the video was used to drum up attention for Khaled’s new record. At the time, the DJ’s new album was set to be released in the following weeks.

It is pretty clear that a perfect relationship cannot be determined by a couple of staged selfies.

“I was shocked just like the rest of the world. I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world ’cause Khaled is a master at what he does,” Minaj said.

Another reason to stay clear of celebrity lovebirds is that it isn’t clear with what goes on beyond social media. A couple may seem perfect together as they walk across the red carpet, but when the night comes to an end, they may be as close as strangers.

“The thing that isn’t very good about fans being involved in celebrity relationships is that we don’t really see what occurs behind the scenes,” junior Cassidy Sutton said. “We only see what they choose to post and show the world. They can purposely make the relationship look a certain way for the media.”

It is pretty clear that a perfect relationship cannot be determined by a couple of staged selfies.

Whether it is a publicity stunt and calls for attention or is a true love story, fans remain obsessed with and ignorant about celebrity relationships. They believe what they read, hear and see is always true and overly dedicate their lives to a relationship that is not their own.
