A new film club was started at and it meets on the last Wednesday of every month in room 120, offering students who enjoy watching and discussing movies a place to explore their interest.

Over the summer, senior Alexandra Silver proposed an idea for film club to teacher Janessa Puig. Puig considered the film-buffs who were unable to get into her film class and decided to give it a try. Later, teacher Linda Snider approved the notion and gave helpful tips on starting a club. The meetings will benefit members because they’ll be able to easily make a new group of friends with the same interest in film. Those wanting to have a career in film will be equipped with the knowledge of the industry as well.

“There’s a bunch of students interested in film and movies that were unable to get into film class.” Film Teacher and Club Sponsor Janessa Puig said. “The club allows them to still be involved in what they’re drawn to.”

Puig was urged by Silver to establish this club to allow her to explore her love of film, in addition to the other students that share her adoration.

“I will probably be this year’s president because I helped create the club and I also do a lot of work for it as well,” Silver said. “I organize and lead meetings, and overall I’m heavily involved in every aspect of the group.”

Characters, plot, tech aspects, directors and actors are all analyzed throughout each assigned movie. It is mostly a student-run organization; students share their opinions about the flicks and then discuss their thoughts with one another. The movie selection incudes a broad range of blockbuster and independent films.

“It is exactly what students have been asking for,” Puig said “a book club for film.”

Film club hopes to provide many opportunities for all sorts of students. Everyone involved works diligently, with the intent that students with a passion for film will have a place to learn, discuss, and share.
