The Cooper City High lady Cowboys girls soccer team clinched their spot in the district championship final after their win against Flanagan on January 19h. Last Thursday, with Flanagan and Cooper were physical and had a well fought out matchup that came all the way down until the end.

In the first quarter, the Cowboys came out slow, and looked as though they thought it would be easier than it was. Flanagan looked to take advantage of the lackluster play by the Cowboys, but they did not get the results they were looking for. The Cowboys’ themselves had many opportunities throughout the quarter, but couldn’t finish anything. It was a tight defensive match up throughout the game.

The second quarter was discombobulated for both teams, as the ball was going back and forth and nobody could establish complete possession. Many fouls were being called, as the game got more intense as the rivalry increased. The first half ended with a score of 0-0.

In the start of the second half, the Cowboys began to pick up the pace and dominate the ball, being in Flanagan’s half often. Eventually, the Cowboys broke through when Lesli De Leon placed a nice corner kick into the leg of Olivia Lewis, who then rocketed the ball in the back of the net, making it 1-0 going into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter of the game, the Cowboys were working hard to not allow any shots on goal, as Flanagan looked to pressure the Cowboys again and even up the score. The Cowboys many opportunities in the beginning of the quarter but couldn’t execute. As the game was coming to an end with 10 minutes left, Flanagan still had a chance to even it up. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Cowboys player Kimberly Slinkosky stole it from the center defender and shot the ball in the corner of the net, making it 2-0. Both teams fought till the end, as the Cowboys took the victory heading into their district championship game against Dr. Krop High School.
