Over the break, the girls basketball team were hard at work practicing for their upcoming games. With a difficult team on Monday, they were able to catch a break and face an easier opponent on Tuesday.

On Tuesday January 9 the girls varsity basketball team took on the Bobcats at West Broward High School. The Lady Cowboys were able to come out on top with a score of 63-17. Cooper City quickly set the tone of the game from the very beginning and was able to keep that lead for the remainder of the game.

Cooper City was able to win the tip off and take the ball down the court. They were able to swing the ball around a couple times and find Amanda Rosales for an open three-point shot, starting the game off with a three. Cooper City was able to get the ball back shortly after and Isabella Wisler was able to put up another three. With Cooper City back on offense, they were able to find Kia Kepple for another open three-pointer. The Cowboys were able to put the stop on West Broward and Rylee Horton was able to create a fast break and take the ball down for another two points.

With a few key passes, the Cowboys were able to find a pass down low and put one in for two points. Kassandra Espinosa was also able to get through West Broward’s defense and get fouled, putting two points on the board and receiving an and one. While on a drive to the basket, Horton was fouled by the Bobcats and was awarded two free throw shots, only making one of them. After getting the ball back, the Cowboys were able to find Rosales who was able to  put another three points on the board.

The second quarter started off and the Cowboys were ready to go. Rosales was able to find her way through the Bobcats defense and to the basket adding another two point for Cooper City. After getting the ball back, Kahn was able to be found down low again, gaining the team another two points before getting fouled. Horton was able steal the ball from the Bobcats creating a fast break and making an easy layup with no one around.

Sophia Pera was able receive a pass and pull up for an open shot. Pera was able to take a close range jump shot and add two points for the Cowboys.  Cooper City got the ball back once again and Pera was able to take another jump shot, putting a couple more points on the board. As the Cowboys moved down the court again, Horton was fouled and was able to sink both shots. Kristina Walker and Rosales were both able to put up four points each at the end, brining the first half to an end with a score of 44-11.

As the second half started, both teams seemed to have slowed down. Cooper City had scored only 19 more points in the second half, while West Broward was only able to score six ending the game with a score of 63-17.
