Girls soccer is now back in full swing, with the Lady Cowboys winning their first game of the season with a score of 2-1 against the West Broward Bobcats. On Wednesday, November 8, the Cowboys played in their first game, setting the tone for the rest of the season.

Cooper City started out with the ball and began working the ball up the field. There was intensity shown by both teams, with ball movement back forth. The first foul of the game was against Sam Worley, giving the Bobcats an opportunity to score a goal against the Cowboys. West Broward just missed the goal, returning the ball back to the Cowboys for a goal kick. The Cowboys got their heads back in the game, creating momentum and good ball movement. The Bobcats chased the ball as the Cowboys passed the ball back and forth. West Broward finally won the ball and hit the ball off a Cooper City defender, giving them a corner kick. Cooper City’s defense kicked the ball out of the box and quickly gained possession once again. The first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

After a quick sip of water to refresh the team, sophomore Annie Clark crossed the ball in attempts to score, but the Bobcat defense jumped to it. Shortly after, junior Jasmine O’harra scored for the Cowboys with a long shot into the back of the net, making it 1-0. West Broward was unable to put the ball in the back of the net, ending the half with a score of 1-0.

West Broward started with the ball in the second half. The Cowboys applied pressure quickly; however, the Bobcats was able to score a goal, making the score 1-1. With the game intensifying, the crowd were hot on their toes with every opportunity each team got. Danielle Gilchrist, Vicki Ramos and Sarah Molina had an extremely successful passing combination throughout the field, getting past the Bobcat’s midfield. Shortly after this, West Broward fouled Berlin Rodriguez as she tried to get past one of their defenders. In response to Rodriguez being fouled, Ramos scored for the Cowboys, winning the game at 2-1.

After the 80 minute game, the Lady Cowboys headed back onto their bench with heads held high. The team was ecstatic, having their first official win and first home game. They are excited for future success, with lots to come down the road this season.
