The wet field influenced the ball movement and player’s traction on the field heavily. Despite these conditions, the Cowboys won the game with a score of 7-0.

The first goal was scored by Vikki Ramos. Shortly after, Danielle Gilchrist placed a shot into the bottom left corner from 16-yards out, making the game 2-0. McArthur couldn’t break through the Cowboy’s’ strong defense and was forced to turn over the ball to the Cowboys four times in a matter of two minutes. The Cowboys didn’t stop the pressure or shooting, and Ramos scored her second goal of the game, giving the Cowboys a 3-0 lead on the Mustangs.

“We’re starting to connect more as a team and trust each other more,” Gilchrist said. “We’ll keep practicing together and working as a team to become better overall for the next games.”

In the second quarter, the Cowboys continued to pressure the Mustangs and forced them to turnover the ball numerous times. The Cowboys shut out the Mustangs in the first half and forced a turnover that led to Jasmine O’Hara driving the ball into the bottom right corner. Just a few minutes after, Kelly Nelson scored the fifth goal of the game to end the first half. A Cowboy comeback slowly became more out of reach.

“I think we’ve picked up on our mistakes and improved upon them,” Sarah Megna said. “We came out confident and determined to win. In the future, we plan to practice harder and win districts then move on to the next rounds.”

The Cowboys continued to attack and defend hard in the second half. Key defensive plays from Kylee Griffin and Megna set up the Cowboys attack to score goals. Ramos assisted Abbi Gilchrist with a perfect through ball that went into the net. McArthur had lost hope as the clock was winding down and Cooper City kept pushing up. Annie Clark scored the last goal of the game with an assist from Berlin Rodriguez, making the final score 7-0.

Final score: Cooper City 7, McArthur 0
