After the last bell rang on Thursday, CCHS faculty and staff gathered in the cafeteria for a meatball tasting.

Teachers paid $10 per person to attend and participated by tasting three different meatball recipes made by CCHS staff. The proceeds from this event will be contributed to the guidance department to be used for student scholarships.

“While it is fun, with the competition between the three faculty and staff that do the meatballs, the money goes to a great cause, which is the scholarship,” English teacher Natalie Flaten said. “So of course, I would like to support that as well as eating delicious food.”

This event is held every year and contributes over $1,000 to a scholarship for graduating students who plan to attend college. The long-term effects of this are what keep the staff motivated to continue the tradition year after year.

“You get people together and we feel like were giving,” guidance counselor Theresa Sullivan said. “We’re really putting into them something practical besides everything else we’ve given to them in terms of education.

“I like that a lot, cause it’s kind of like follow-through.”

This “follow-through” is a major goal of the faculty each year; it allows them to give toward students’ futures in addition to what teachers and guidance have given throughout the students’ four years of high school.

“I think it’s a great way for them to help students pay for college,” art teacher Irma Barr said. “And the meatballs are absolutely delicious.”

Aside from the benefits that go toward students, the faculty can agree that the tasting gave them a chance to come together for a cause, allowing them to interact outside of the classroom.

“It’s a great event, it gets all the teachers together for lunch, and we raise money to give to kids for college,” Sullivan said. “It’s a fabulous thing.”

As Barr said, “It’s just fun. It’s fun to be a part of.”
