The Cooper City Cowboys faced off against Flanagan, West Broward and Godby High School. The Cowboys defeated Flanagan 38-0, West Broward 21-0 and lost to Godby High School 19-0. The Cowboys won their two important district games and lost to the team ranked fifth in the state. The Cowboys are now the sixth team in the state, seeking to get back to the state championship and win.

The first game was played on Monday, April 9 against Flanagan High School. The Cowboys defeated the Falcons 38-0 in this district game. From the kickoff, the Cowboys were able to get a good return and great starting field position for the first drive of the game. Running back Kimberly Slinkosky made her way down the field and scored on the first few runs of the game. The Cowboys dominated the offensive and defensive aspects of the game and didn’t let the Falcons score the whole game. By halftime the Cowboys were up 21-0 and held a comfortable lead. The Cowboys didn’t stop scoring and touchdowns from Slinkosky and Annie Clark shut out the game. The girls got an important district win to help them gain a good spot in the playoffs.

The next game was played on Thursday, April 12 against West Broward High School. The Cowboys won this district game 21-0 and had their second shutout of the week. In the first quarter, neither team could find a way to the end zone but eventually, Slinkosky ran the ball 20 yards to score the first touchdown of the game. Slinkosky now has 20 touchdowns for the season and leads the team in touchdowns and rushing yards. The Cowboy’s defense had another shutout and forced the Falcons to throw incomplete passes and interceptions. Slinkosky scored her second touchdown of the game, making it 14-0 in the last quarter. Clark scored the last touchdown of the game to seal the victory and win the game 21-0.

“Our ultimate goal for this season is to try [to] top the level we reached last year, which was the first round of states,” Slinkosky said. “Although we are missing skill from last year, we just have to keep working hard and practicing our game to go far this year.”

The last game of the week was played on Friday, April 13 against Godby High School. The Cowboys lost 19-0 to the fifth team in the state.
