On March 1st through March 3rd, CCHS”s DECA chapter attended the annual Florida Career Development Conference in Orlando.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is a business club in which students compete by either testing or creating a business plan. Students who compete in a testing event must take a 100-question multiple-choice test about a specific area of business such as finance, hospitality, or marketing. Students can test by themselves or with a partner. Students can also work individually or as a group to create a 10 or 30 page business plan about an existing business or one they have created.

Seniors Emily Slavin and Jenelle Chaing placed 4th place in their testing category, Hospitality Team Decision Making. Their event required knowledge of knowing how to manage a business and how to make it successful.
“(Our event) helped us prepare for a potential job that we might have in the future,” Chaing said. “We learned a lot from it.”
