The CCHS boys volleyball team hopped on the bus headed to Nova for their first official game of the season. Recently, the Cowboys played in a pre-season tournament to get a feel for each other and see what they need to improve on as they move on in the season.

The Cowboys were able to pinpoint their mistakes and work on them in order to give themselves a better chance at being more successful in their next game. Collectively, the Cowboys worked hard in practice preparing for their first game and hoped to come out with a win.

On Tuesday, February 27, the Cooper City Cowboys faced off against the Nova Titans at Nova High School in their very first regular season game. The Cowboys were able to push past their mistakes and make up for them in other places, eventually winning three sets to one.

The first set went back and forth, both teams consistently scoring points. Both teams were neck and neck, but the Cowboys were able to catch the Titans off guard and pull themselves ahead by four points, ending the set with a score of 25-21.

“We have a lot to work on as we move further into the season. In the end, we did bring home the win so that’s really all that matters.”

The Cowboys got too comfortable with the lead, while the Titans became hungrier for a win. The Cowboys made errors and could not quite keep up as Nova fought hard and strong to win the second set. Cooper City fell apart in the second set making simple errors, causing them to lose the set 16-25, and tie the game.

Cooper City had realized that Nova wasn’t backing down and began to play to win. Sophomore Dylan Zacca was able to help, hitting six kills and six aces. The Cowboys defense also held up strong, diving for balls, making digs and making plays. Ian Espinosa was able to get 27 digs, which is 27 points Nova didn’t score.

Although Nova continued to put up a good fight, the Cowboys were able to make plays and score some points. Senior Noah Gannon hit five kills and had 28 assists, helping to win the game for the Cowboys.

“I definitely think we could have played better as a team,” Adam Hartmann said.  “We have a lot to work on as we move further into the season. In the end, we did bring home the win so that’s really all that matters.”

Final score: Cooper City 3, Nova 1
