On Monday, November 21st the Cooper City Boys Varsity Soccer Team made their way to Cypress Bay High School. The boys gave it their all, but lost the game with a score of 0-7.

The Cowboys started off strong in the first quarter, competing well against the Cypress Bay Lightning. Soon after the game started, one of the Cooper City players received a red card and was ejected from the game. The boys had to play a man down, which made it even more difficult to withstand the Lightning’s pressure. The Cowboys fought back hard, but right before the first water break they gave up an own goal making the score 0-1. The Cowboys came out unprepared, and Cypress Bay took full advantage of it. The boys gave it their all to stop the forwards from getting any shots off, but were unsuccessful. “We need to come together and trust each other more,” senior Willy Upegui said. Cypress Bay scored three more goals before the half ended, putting the score at 0-4.

Cooper City came out more determined in the second half, and started off strong.  Still playing a man down, the Cowboys made attempts to move the ball up the field. However, Cypress began dominating the game and proceeded to knock the ball around the field. Cypress Bay scored two more goals before the first water break of the second half, making the score 0-6. The Cowboys held their defensive line as best as they could, but the game was already almost over.  Five minutes before the game ended, Cypress Bay knocked another ball into the back of the net, making the final score 0-7. Although the boys lost, they walked off the field with their heads high.

“As a captain of the team, I hope that the team comes together and finds a rhythm,” senior Alonso Mendoza said. “Also, I would love for us to become the first team in Cooper City to win back-to-back district championship for soccer.”

Final Score: Cooper City 0, Cypress Bay 7
