On March 6th, the boys varsity lacrosse team warmed up to play against the West Broward Bobcats for the second time. The Bobcats fought hard to take home the win, but the Cowboys fought back harder and won with a score of 5-4.

The whistle blew and freshman Kadin Schillo scooped the ball away from the West Broward player, winning the first faceoff of the game. He moved it down to the attack and the boys passed it around. One of the players took a shot but missed, giving the Bobcats possession of the ball. West Broward was able to move the ball around the Cooper City defense and scored the first goal of the game. West Broward won the next face off and took the ball down towards the Cooper City defense. A West Broward player took a shot and missed, giving the Cowboys possession of the ball. Senior Craig Barr took a shot but missed, giving the goalie the ball. West Broward moved the ball down and was able to find a hole in the defense, scoring the second goal of the game. Cooper City won the next face off and took the ball down. Junior Anthony Carmona took a shot on the goal, but the goalie saved it. The goalie reached back to throw and the ball fell into the goal, making the score 1-2.

The boys came out strong, determined to put goals in the back of the net. Schillo won the faceoff and ran the ball down himself and took a shot but missed. West Broward moved the ball down the field and took a shot on goal, but senior Brogan Ness saved the shot. Ness passed the ball to Carmona, but as West Broward player quickly gained possession back. The player took a bounce shot and made the score 1-3.

Cooper City came out winning the first face off again, and moved it around the attack. Carmona saw a hole in the defense and took a shot, but the ball went out of bounds. Cooper gained possession back and began to move the ball around. Carmona passed the ball to Barr, who then passed it to senior Luke O’Malley. O’Malley took a shot on goal but missed. O’Malley got the ball back and passed it to Barr. Barr took a hard shot at the goal and made it, making the score 2-3. Schillo won the next faceoff and took it down to the attack. He passed it to sophomore Jack O’Malley, who took a shot but missed. Schillo gained possession back and moved the ball around. He passed it to Barr, who took a bounce shot on the goal, making the score 3-3. West Broward won the next faceoff and quickly took it down to take a shot, but Ness saved it and cleared it. A West Broward player won the ball back and passed it to an attack player. The attack player took a shot and scored the fourth goal for West Broward. Cooper City won the next faceoff and quickly moved the ball around. Barr took the ball towards the goal to shoot but was knocked down by a West Broward player. The referee blew the whistle, giving Barr possession of the ball. Barr took a shot but the West Broward goalie saved it and cleared the ball.

West Broward won the faceoff and took it down towards the Cooper City defense. A West Broward player took a shot on the goal but missed, giving the Cowboys possession of the ball. Barr had the ball in his stick and took another bounce shot at the goal, making the score 4-4. Schillo won the next faceoff and passed it down to Carmona. Carmona took a shot but missed, giving the Bobcats possession of the ball. A West Broward player started to run the ball down, but senior Matthew Okun caused a turnover and got the ball back. Okun passed to O’Malley, who took a shot but missed. The Cowboys began to dominate the rest of the game, but just couldn’t put one in the back of the net. The game was coming close to an end when Schillo saw an opening in the defense and took a hard shot on the goal, making the score 5-4.

The Cowboys gave it their all and were satisfied with the outcome, walking off the fields with heads high. “It felt good to beat West Broward,” junior Giodanni D’attilio said. “Every win is great, we can use that win to get better and to prepare for future games.”
