On Wednesday January 12th, 2011, the Cooper City Cowboys boys basketball team faced off against conference opponent Flanagan at home.

The Cowboys and Falcons started off with a fast paced first quarter with the score tied at 19. Through a slow second quarter CCHS found themselves down 6 headed into halftime with the score 31-25 in favor of Flanagan, and after a dismal third quarter the Cowboys were down 10, 49-39 Falcons.

But all of a sudden in the fourth quarter, a new rejuvenated Cooper team fought back, slowly catching up to Flanagan. Led by junior Danny Alicot and senior Steven Worrell, the Cowboys bounced back after a poor start and with 6 minutes left, senior Greg Bonomo connected on two free throws which made the score 50-47 Flanagan. Soon after, Worrell made a free throw, and a driving layup bringing the Cowboys within 2 points, the score was 52-50 Flanagan. Then, freshman David Alicot came up with a steal on the defensive end resulting in a fast break lay-up tying the score up at 52 with little time remaining.

After hitting a pair of free throws by Flanagan’s senior Alex Schaut, Flanagan regained the lead with one minute to play, 54-52 Flanagan, and their lead was stretched to 4 after another pair of free throws. The game seemed all but over until Danny Alicot made a layup with 30 seconds left. But missed opportunities and Flanagan’s success from the free throw line put the game out of reach for the Cowboys, who are still searching for their second win of the season. The final score was 58-54 Flanagan.

Danny Alicot finished the game with 18 points, and Worrell had 13 points and 9 rebounds.
