On Monday, February 5, the CCHS Cowboys took on Pompano Beach High for their final game of the season. The Cowboys were able to dominate the entirety of the game and finish their season with a win. The game went back and forth until about the second half, when the Cowboys pulled ahead and finished the game with a score of 67-35.

The Cowboys started off slow, with both teams struggling to score points. The Cowboys got the ball to sophomore Michael Potes, who was able to drive in and put two points on the board. Pompano was able to keep up, driving in and putting up two points right after, making it 4-4 with a few minutes left in the first quarter. Billy Brennan received a pass and pulled up to shoot a close-range jump shot, just off the key, giving the Cowboys two more points. Just before the end of the first quarter sophomore Dylan Nelson was able to drive through Pompano’s defense, ending the quarter with a score of 10-3.

The Cowboys continued the momentum and continued to dominate the game. Freshman Daniel Azran was able to pull up and make a three-pointer, putting the Cowboys ahead even more. The Cowboys were able to find Matthew Archy open in the paint twice, putting up two points back to back and giving the Cowboys four more points. Pompano scored six points in the quarter, all coming from fouls. Michael Rubiana made his way through Pompano’s defense and to the basket, ending the first half with a score of 24-11.

As the second half started, the Cowboys were beginning to pull themselves ahead even more. Rubaina was able to score a three-pointer as well as a layup at the beginning of the third quarter. The Cowboys continued to score while Pompano struggled; however, they were able to catch the Cowboys off guard and make two threes. Cooper City shut Pompano down on defense, causing them to only score 12 points in the third quarter. The Cowboys were able to put up multiple three-pointers and score 20 points in the third, ending the quarter with a score of 44-23.

The Cowboys kept their defense lockdown and tried to keep possession of the ball as much as possible. Both Matthew Schwam and Nelson were able to make a three, adding six points to the Cowboys final score. The Cowboys kept up on defense, only allowing Pompano to score 10 points in the last quarter.  Cooper City was able to sink a total of 23 points in the last quarter, ending the game with a score of 67-35.
