The boys JV boys basketball team played their 11th game of the season against Monarch High School at home on Wednesday, January 31 at 6:30. They warmed up thirty minutes before the game, shooting baskets and making passes. The coaches called their team into the huddle to give the starting line up, and then the players took the court. The Cowboys fought a hard game, pulling through and winning with a score of 50-40.

The ball was thrown up and the Knights won the ball. The Cowboys immediately stole it and passed it around. #22 got the rebound of a shot, making two points for the Cowboys. The Knights took it down, but the Cowboys got it back again. Quickly after, #15 took and shot and made two points. The Knights passed the ball around and then took a shot, making two points. The ball goes back and down the court for two minutes until the Cowboys take another shot, making two points. The Knights go for another shot, but #22 blocked it, giving the Cowboys possession. The Cowboys make 4 more points in the first quarter, making the score 10-4.

The second quarter started and the Knights took possession of the ball, quickly making two points. The Knights got the ball back, took a shot, and missed. Three minutes into the second quarter, Monarch’s coach called a timeout. After the timeout Cooper City sent in #5 and the entire crowd cheered. Cooper City got the ball, but missed a shot, giving the Knights possession. The Knights went up for a layup and made it, putting two points on the scoreboard. The Cowboys started to come back and pass the ball around. #4 received a pass and shot a three-pointer, adding three points to the Cowboy’s score. A Monarch player went up for a layup, but #22 blocked it and the crowd went wild. He took the ball down the court and took a three-pointer, adding three more points to the score. The Cowboys foul the Knights, giving them two foul shots. They miss both of them. The Cowboys make four more points before the second quarter ends, making the score 25-13.

After halftime, the Knights came out hot and the Cowboys had to put on their best defense. The Knights were immediately fouled and rewarded to shots, making both. Immediately after, the Knights were fouled again and only make one foul shot. The Cowboys get the ball back and pass it around, giving #15 the ball. He took a shot and made it. Both teams went back and forth, scoring point after point. The Knights started to dominated the game, putting pressure on the Cowboys defense. The third quarter ended with a score of 32-30, with the Cowboys in the lead by 2 points.

With fifteen minutes left in the game, the Cowboys gave it their everything to win. Their defense was strong, blocking a lot of shots. The Cowboys committed a few fouls, but got the ball back after. Cooper City knew the game was close, so they began shooting like crazy, making a lot of shots. The Knights couldn’t defend the Cowboy’s determined offense, who was making points after points. The game came to an end with the Cowboys winning with a score of 50-40.

The Cowboys were excited about their win, especially against a good school like Monarch. Their next away game is on Monday, February 5 at 6 p.m against Hallandale High School.
