After another great marching band and color guard season for CCHS music production, the Sound Of Pride ended their season in Tampa, Florida at the state marching band competition on November 11th and 12th.

“States is such an important experience for those who are new in band by showing that those months of blood, sweat, and tears were worth it for a beautiful and meaningful experience,” color guard member Thomas Emoff said.

The state championship is an annual competition in which marching bands from all over Florida compete for first place by performing a musical piece that they have been preparing all school year long. The competition consists of two parts: semi-finals and finals. The bands are broken into divisions based on their size. Sound of Pride is a 5A band, which is the largest division, and competed against 13 other schools in their division.

The Sound Of Pride performed their competition show on Saturday morning in the Tropicana Dome in Tampa called Movement For Rosa, which is a piece that touches on the subject of police brutality and racial inequality.. They placed 12th in semi-finals. Even though they did not move on to compete in finals, they were happy with their overall performance.

“After all of the adversity our program has faced this season, I’m proud of the band for pulling through and helping make my final performance a memorable one,” senior Brenda Ruiz said.

Color guard and percussion also received scores in comparison to other bands’ guard and percussion. These scores factor into the overall score of the band. Compared to other color guards and percussion, Sound of Pride did relatively well in these categories which helped the band’s score.

The Sound of Pride has been working on their show since before school has started; they put so much effort into making it a great piece and even though they didn’t place, they really gave it their all and that’s all one could really ask for.
