Sadly, the fifth season of the musical comedy Glee is already halfway over. Most people who watch the show become totally engrossed; there are no small amount of Glee fans. However, no matter how many fans the show keeps and continues to make, there is an apparent downward trend in the appeal of Glee. At this point, Glee has completely shifted its focus of following a glee club trying to make it in high school to Rachel Berry taking on NYC.

The latest season started out normal with main character Rachel Berry on the brink of fulfilling her Broadway dreams, but everything crumbled to pieces after a not so spectacular Christmas special. Initially I was excited for the return of “Glee” after the 3 week hiatus but my glee (pun intended) quickly diminished after watching friendships that had been built between characters over the past four seasons become completely trashed. While the episode was called “Frenemies,” one can’t help but wonder if it was really necessary to get rid of one of the best components of the show, the camaraderie between the characters. Not only was this episode’s storyline disappointing but even the song choices were weak! I long for the good old days, when the William McKinley high school glee club used to sing great renditions of classic songs instead of butchering overplayed radio hits.

Obviously the show is called “Glee” because it centers around a high school glee club so it’s totally mind boggling that the club, and the premise of the show, has now disbanded. The series may as well be called “Rachel Berry takes New York” because that’s where most of the season has been taking place. Maybe moving the whole show to New York at this point wouldn’t be such a bad idea. The main cast has graduated and is no longer even a part of the glee club. The new cast members that have replaced them don’t even compare to the talented group chemistry that the original cast had.

The show has been adored by millions of fans for four seasons but it seems like that may be coming to an end. Glee fans everywhere are hoping that maybe the show can get some redemption with its two-part 100th episode. At least the song choices will succeed, because fans voted for them. Let’s hope Glee can get it together because they have already been renewed for a sixth season.
