BY MARTINA SMITH

We all know the stereotypical ideas for a date. Movies are classic, romantic dinners are essential, and mini golf is always a good time. But what about for those of us who want to do a little something different with our significant other? This list is for those people who want to spice up their dating repertoire.

Instead of a romantic dinner, try:

Blind Dining

They say that when one of your senses is taken away, the other ones are heightened. This is the theory behind blind dining, an experience in which you are blindfolded during the duration of your romantic dinner. After you are seated, the waitress asks you to list any food items you are not a fan of and you are given a crash course in eating in the dark. Then, it’s lights out for the duration of the meal. Not only is it an interesting experience for your tongue, as you must determine what the tasty treats you’re eating actually are, but also a conversation starter and a way to take some of the pressure off of a normal dining experience.

Instead of a normal movie, try:

The Drive-In

A drive in theater is just like your average movie theater, except you never leave the comfort of your car. It allows for conversation during the movie as well as a more comfortable and intimate experience. Also, it’s generally no more expensive than somewhere like Cinemark or AMC. Plus, you can bring your own snacks!

Instead of mini golf, try:

Paint-Ball

Warning: Not for a new couple or a first date! But for those of us that are comfortable with our other halves, paint ball can be a really fun way to compete against each other at something while enjoying yourselves at the same time. A word of warning, paint ball does hurt. So make sure you’re prepared!

Instead of a normal beach day, try:

Speed Boats

Rentals are not always cheap, depending on where you rent them from, but the experience is exhilarating. My only advice is to rent two separate ones if you can afford to, instead of sharing. Otherwise, you may have to endure arguments about which sex drives the worst.

Contrary to popular belief, a date does not have to involve money or a crazy gimmick. You can have just as much fun staying home, watching movies, cooking, eating take out, playing games, and just enjoying each other’s company. If you try only one unique date idea on this list, make it this one. The stay-home date is unfortunately becoming a lost art, which is a shame. It truly is the best, simplest, and most comfortable form of dating.
