There was a festive atmosphere at the Cooper City High School pool when the Girls Water Polo team faced off against the Western Wildcats on Thursday April 10th.  However, despite their best effort the Cowboys came up short, losing on their annual Senior Night.

The Cowboys came out strong with 5 goal attempts in the 1st quarter. However, they weren’t able to capitalize and the Western girls were able to score early in the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, Western was able to take advantage of two Cowboy turnovers to extend their lead to 3-0. One minute into the second half, Cooper started showing some life with an impressive goal attempt and a nice block from goalie Kirsten Bunting. Unfortunately, Western’s number 15 was able to convert on a half tank shot making the score 4-0.

At the end of the 2nd quarter the score was 5-0. Early in the third quarter, Bunting showed exceptional blocking skills by sending away several Western shots. Two minutes into the third quarter, number 13 scored for Western, bringing their lead to 6-0, breaking the back of Cooper’s stamina. After some full court passing and blocking from both teams, number 16 for Western was able to score again.

Despite several close goal attempts by junior Ronit Ben- Joseph, the Cowboys simply could not make a dent in the Wildcats strong defense. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 7-1.  Toward the end of the game, Cooper City finally broke through with a goal from senior Sarah Lehman. The final score was 7-1 with the Cowboys Girl’s Team coming up on the wrong side of a lopsided effort.
