The girls varsity softball team faced off against the Nova Titans on April 27th at Nova High School. The teams were competing for the district title, making it a very important game for the Cowboys. The Lady Cowboys dominated the game and won with a score of 11-1.

The Cowboys screamed their cheer from right outside the dugout, excited to play in the game. Cooper City took the field and allowed no runs, quickly transitioning to offense. The girls came out strong offensively, scoring four runs in the first inning. They stayed strong offensively the entire game. “Defensively I don’t think there were any mistakes,” sophomore Michelle Adelman said. “Kara pitched very well and I think we did really well in every aspect.”

Senior Kara Lokeinsky had twelve strikeouts and only allowed one run the entire game. “I think we all came together and really showed who we were,” Lokeinsky said. “We really wanted this win and everyone did what they were supposed to do to achieve it.”

Her younger sister, Brenna Lokeinsky, performed as well batting three RBIs and scoring two runs. Sophomore Jasmin Herrera went 2-3 for the Cowboys, along with teammate Katherine Claros. Claros added three RBIs as well. The girls fought hard the entire game, no matter how much they were winning by. The game only went to the 5th inning, ending early for the Cowboys and Titans. The girls were ecstatic when the game was over, running over to hold the District trophy. “It felt great to win districts for the second year in a row,” Herrera said. “We are very excited to be moving on to regionals.” The Lady Cowboys play on Wednesday, May 3rd for Regional quarterfinals.
